Viagra does not help sexual dysfunction in women

A recent report from Canada found that sildenafil (Viagra) does not improve female sexual arousal disorder. 34 postmenopausal women with symptoms of sexual dysfunction were studied in a randomized, placebo-controlled, cross-over trial. The average age was 56 years and all women were receiving hormone replacement therapy.

The investigators gave a standard does of sildenafil prior to genital stimulation and timed orgasm onset and intensity. These measures were not statistically significant from the placebo treated women.

Therefore, there are currently no studies supporting the use of sildenafil in menopause-aged women with sexual dysfunction.
